Short answer: no.
People often wonder if they should tip their massage therapist, and tipping etiquette can vary in the realm of Registered Massage Therapy.
Though it's a lovely gesture, for the most part, it is absolutely not necessary! RMT's in Canada are regulated healthcare professionals just like dentists, chiropractors and nurses.
While it's not customary to tip in healthcare settings where RMTs often work, such as clinics or hospitals, tipping may be appropriate in some spa settings where RMT's might earn a lower hourly rate and therefore rely on tips to supplement their wage.
Many massage therapists in Canada would agree, it is not necessary or expected for you to leave a tip in a clinical or sole proprietor setting.
Tipping has become such a part of North American culture but it shouldn’t apply to your healthcare, which is why I don’t have a tip option on my payment processor. Life is stressful enough, I don't want you to stress about whether or not, or how much you should tip!
Some people might insist on leaving a tip, but honestly the best way to show appreciation to your RMT is by leaving a positive review or referring someone else to book in!
